After many stays in Playa del Carmen, where lounging on the beach never really suited me, I sought a more meaningful way to spend my time. As a dog lover, I discovered CENCAAZ and began volunteering there. I met incredible dogs—survivors of the worst circumstances—who still showed extraordinary resilience. These dogs are no different from those who share our homes; they didn’t end up at the shelter by choice but because they were victims of human neglect or cruelty.

Fortunately, I also met extraordinary volunteers—kind-hearted individuals who work tirelessly to improve the daily lives of these dogs. Together, we strive not only to meet their basic needs but also to enrich their lives during their time at the shelter, providing them with love, care, and stimulation.

Inspired, I actively participate with K9 Lifesavers Mexico, convinced that helping animals requires a multifaceted approach: donations, adoption, fostering and, most importantly, community education

I love to volunteer at the sanctuary on a regular basis so I and my friends can provide precious time with the dogs out of the cages.
We can love them and socialise them and they give so much love back.
They soon get to know you anc it’s like visiting friends.

I'm Madlen, I started volunteering since September 2020 because I love animals and I like to help those who are in an unprotected situation and see how their quality of life improves when they are adopted. I love to walk them and see them happy.

My happiness begins when I arrive at the dog pound in the morning and all the dogs are so happy to see us, wagging their tails and cannot wait to go on their walk. I love to spend quality time with them outside of their cages. We socialise them again and help them to overcome their trauma and get ready to be adopted.

I have always had a love and a very strong connection with dogs since I was a child, unfortunately in Mexico it is full of stray dogs and since I could not continue to bring them home I decided to become a permanent volunteer of the Cebiam city pound in Playa del Carmen.

Being part of the Volunteer Team I find I’m connecting to my truest and most sensitive innerself, which is my relationship with the dogs. I find connecting with other beautiful living creatures is genuinely feeding my spirit.

I love to walk the dogs at the CEBIAM Sanctuary who show their gratitude by
covering you with happy, loving and sloppy licks. What makes me most happy is when the adopting families send us photos of the dogs we helped rescue and find a new life. It fills us with joy and is always emotionally uplifting.
