K9 Lifesavers Mexico

K9 Lifesavers Mexico AC was founded under the belief shared by the late Mahatma Gandhi that the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.

Understanding that the dog is Mexico’s favorite household pet with almost 44 million dogs estimated as “in home” pets ( INEGI Informa survey 2021* ), the problem of abandoned and abused street dogs has exploded to almost twice those numbers.

With this in mind, K9 Lifesavers Mexico is commited to dog rescue and dog adoption.

We are all volunteers and we invite other dog lovers to join our movement in saving street dogs in Playa del Carmen and throughout Mexico.
Our organization is registered in Mexico as a Non Profit Civil Association. We work directly with other NGO’s and private individual rescuers that share our belief and vision of a better environment for dogs in Mexico. As well, we assist the local municipal authorities to ensure that street dogs in Playa del Carmen are caught & sterilized. When possible, they are moved into a Municipal shelter or in some fortunate cases into a temporary foster home.

Our goals are to reduce the number of street dogs specifically in Playa del Carmen and in Mexico as a whole, to support government and non government organizations in rescuing and saving street dogs, to promote massive sterilization campaigns of all dogs, to encourage dog adoptions in lieu of dog purchases, to lobby for government legislative reform in favor of animal right protections and to educate dog owners on their inherent responsibility regarding the dog’s welfare and the responsibility of dog ownership in general.
