Saving Lives one dog at a Time!
It’s not easy asking for donations, especially during these difficult times. However, the street dog situation has skyrocketed in Mexico since the start of the pandemic and your help is needed now more than ever.
Dog lovers who have traveled to Playa del Carmen ( and other places in Mexico ) on vacation have noticed the many homeless dogs living in the streets and walking around the beaches and restaurants looking for scraps of food. If you’ve ever thought about how you can rescue one (or more) of these stray animals and bring them home to the U.S., Canada or somewhere else where they would be better off, you’re not alone. Many tourists choose to adopt homeless pets from countries like Mexico and when they are not able to adopt or foster, they donate supplies or money to help save these defenceless creatures.
Our Commitment
K9 Lifesavers Mexico A.C. is committed to finding these abused and abandoned dogs permanent, loving homes in Mexico and internationally. Meanwhile, we work with other reputable local organizations and private individual rescuers in getting these rescued dogs off the street and either into the Municipal government Center for the Welfare of Animals ( CEBIAM – Sanctuary ) or into private Shelters. Caring for homeless animals is a constant struggle In Mexico, run-down and understaffed shelters are common and local governments never usually plan a substantial budget for saving these animals. Local organizations and individuals try to help as many of these dogs as they can, but the overwhelming task of rescuing animals while working to stop pet overpopulation is something they can’t do alone. Honestly, we need everyone’s help! From all received donations, approximately seventy ( 70% ) percent goes to support the Municipal governments CEBIAM Sanctuary operation and the balance of the donations goes to supporting private individual street dog rescues.
The two pronged effort helps to ensure a greater quantity of street dogs can be saved from a life of abandonment and misery.
It’s an ongoing process.
While waiting for adoption, we ensure their sterilizations, vaccinations and perform a battery of blood tests to determine their overall health. We provide them with quality food and clean drinking water, while interacting with them on a daily basis in order for them to regain trust in people. In many cases, the dogs are suffering from anemia, low blood platelets, viral and bacterial infections, heartworms, dermatological conditions, eye and ear infections, bone fractures, fibrotic tumors and even cancer. For this reason, we work with many local vets who help us at a reduced cost to administer medical assistance, while we also cover the costs of the medicine required. Our organization especially focuses on the dog’s resocialization and rehabilitation into the world which includes temporary home fostering.
K9 Lifesavers Mexico really needs your donations. There are so many ways for you to help.
